"Antoinette"

 Title: Antoinette
Medium: Watercolor & Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 4x4 ft.
$1350

"Antoinette" was inspired by modern day fashion designs along with the lavish and outrageous adornment of Marie Antoinette's style during the late 1700's. The art of fashion sketches is absolutely inspiring, with each gestural line being so important and creative these figurative sketches create fantastic ingredients for a stylized watercolor painting. As a subject Marie Antoinette was the perfect figure, with her "big hair" and outrageous styles I just had to bring her to life as a style icon in modern day art!

23rd Anuual Art Auction!

The very popular 23rd annual auction is coming up at the Kamloops Art Gallery on October 1st.
(click on the poster above for more info)
It has been such a success for so many years because of their dedication to quality work, and by creating a fun, classy atmosphere with Black&White attire, live auctions, and live music! This year the gallery has invited me to donate a work of significant value. I have donated a 3.5x2 ft Acrylic Stain Painting called 'Sleek'
Don't miss out on this amazing event!

“Sleek” is part of a four piece set that was inspired by our world’s everlasting vintage fashions. For centuries the creativity in fashion adornment has been brought to life by each individual’s own style and grace. This is a constant inspiration to me, and enables me to create my own stylized voice in each gestural stroke, and in the colors I choose. To magnify the depth in this piece I have used a thin staining technique in the background, and thicker brush strokes in the figure which creates a much modernized twist to this vintage fashion.

**The other 3 part of the set are still available to purchase, and will not be part of the auction. **

A Summer Full of Commissions!

First off I can't believe it's already the end of Aug!
I suppose most of my time went to my solo show in Revelstoke that I had set up for the month of July filled with 23 large paintings... the largest being 7x4 feet! Or perhaps what kept me the most busiest was the 4 commissions I had in July/Aug with 3 more commissioned paintings that I have set up for their completion in Sept/Oct. Now what seems to baffle me every year is getting ready for Winter Holiday Shows in the middle of summer! I just recently finished setting up my schedule to attend 4 shows in November for all you early Holiday Shoppers!... That's one every week!

Now back to the commissions...I thought I would show you a bit more of the work behind one of my commissions. This commission I completed in July for a soccer lover's new baby boy!!

Here are the images he sent me prior to the start of the commission.

And here is the completion of the painting!
As you can see there were a couple of things that were customized to the customer's own liking such as the writing, color, and the overall style of the painting...which ultimately changed these photo's into a vivid and lively soccer painting!
Doesn't it just make you want to go to a soccer game in Italy?!

Feature Artist - Cate Parr

Feature Artist: Cate Parr!

Cate Parr is an amazing watercolor fashion illustrative artist, born and educated in England. She is now currently painting in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

There is no doubt that Cate is an outstanding artist as her work speaks for it's self. Her vivid color combinations and illustrative talents in her brush strokes come together to create many masterpieces. Cate's work has been featured in Magazines such as LONY, Vecu, and even Lucky Magazine!

I find so much grace in the way Cate paints her fashion figures, and in the way her colors seem to play and mold together. The boldness in the figures she chooses is a constant inspiration to my own work, as our tastes are very similar when it comes to painting the female figure. However, her fantastic creativity in the way she paints hair and parts of the body is what I am drawn to the most... There is so much detail to view in her watercolors! There really is nothing better than an artist who is always expanding by letting the intuition explode through layers upon layers of brushstrokes, and this is exactly what Cate has achieved in her art.

Her Original Artwork and Fine Art Prints are much desired and loved on etsy (her online store)

Here are some of my personal favourites of Cate's work.

This one reminds me of how an oil spill looks with all the different colors blending together, so beautiful and graceful!

I thought I had a fave, but I really cannot choose anymore...I love them all!!

It's not very often that you see such vivid watercolor paintings...and with such bold narratives!

Here you have it...Cate Parr Everyone!
